Sometime, shortly after midnight on 7th of October 1996, two men knocked on Darren Barden‘s front door. While his wife and one year old son were upstairs in bed, these two individuals set about Darren in a frenzied attack, stabbing him with several different blades and leaving Darren for dead with more than 40 stab wounds.

This tragic case of mistaken identity almost ended Darren’s life. 13 years later, the trauma of that event would come back to haunt Darren and his family, when he developed extreme symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which led to him contemplating suicide.

On this episode of Jordan’s Space, Darren shares the details of the horrific attack he experienced, his battle with PTSD and how this led to his work in supporting the mental health of those working in construction. He will also talk about the new mental health and suicide prevention app, iTalk, he has co-founded, to be launched in December 2023.
