Experiencing a life changing injury or illness
Living with a chronic long-term injury or illness brings with it obvious physical challenges but alongside these challenges are the often unseen and hidden mental health issues such as anxiety, trauma, depression and associated suicidal thoughts. The following resources aim to answer your questions and signpost you to helpful support.
CFG Law are personal injury specialists who have a dedicated team of rehabilitation and support coordinators who all have a background in health and social care. Such is their commitment to the long term physical and mental wellbeing of their clients, that in 2024 they launched the Community Compass App.
The app is a place for people who have sustained a serious, life-changing injury to turn to, offering the support needed to navigate life after injury. There is also a section on bereavement which is aimed at people who have lost loved ones in road traffic collisions.
As well as content, information and guidance, there is also the opportunity for people to share their own experiences and signposting to other organisations who can support them. There are core contributors to the app who have content in the ‘lived experience’ section.
The Community Compass app can be downloaded for free from Google Play or the App Store here:

Lauren Doherty – Road Safety Talks.
In August 2008, on a night out with friends, Lauren was distracted and crossed the road at the wrong time.
Lauren was hit by a van, thrown 30ft down the road and left totally paralysed for life. She was 20 years old at the time.
In June 2016, Lauren’s wish to educate others began and the Road Safety Talks Project began. Since 2016, Lauren has delivered over 8000 talks to school age children. She also delivers talks on the relationship between experiencing a life changing injury and the impact on mental health, including anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide.
