Show 23 – How a haircut turned into hope for those experiencing grief after loss – an interview with the co-founders of The New Normal Charity.

What do you talk about in the barber’s chair?

Struggling with grief following the loss of his father to cancer, Jack Baxter, saw ‘a cool looking dude’ appear in his Instagram feed. He decided to jump in his car and drive from his home in Essex to a barber’s shop in Portabello Road, London to have a haircut but more importantly, to chat with the owner of the barber’s shop, Benjamin May – the rest is history!

In this episode of Jordan’s Space, Dani, Paul and I chat with Ben and Jack, co-founders of The New Normal Charity

Ben and Jack both lost their father’s (their best friends) to cancer. Their grief led each of them to experience significant personal challenges and mental health problems. Now, the charity they formed in May 2018, supports adults and young people to manage their grief and has more than 100 volunteers, facilitating ‘Good Grief’ sessions all over the world.

The New Normal Charity is also a recipient of the BBC’s All in the Mind Awards for 2023.

This is a moving and at times tragically sad story but mainly one about friendship and hope.
